I will declare His word and works wherever I go. As I meet various people, often times there is an exchange of words of wisdom. As I was writing today, I tuned in to exactly that. I want you to know, had I been focused in on something else I would have missed the wind chimes of wisdom. I called it that because today the words were soft and if I had not paid good enough attention I would have missed it. Many times words of the learned are imparted but are we really listening. When wind chimes make a sound it’s not loud but very distinct and pleasing to discriminating ears. Wisdom is the same it’s distinct and pleasing to a certain set of ears. So I decided to marry the two and hence the name “Wind Chimes of Wisdom”, it just seem to make sense. So all of these colorful discussions I am cataloguing under that title. One thing is for sure, if we are not in tune we will miss the wind chimes of wisdom.

Wind Chimes of Wisdom – Tree of Life

Talking with my friend Larry, at Starbucks I recognized at various moments the wind chimes were ringing, but did I hear, perceive or pen it every time? He and I typically have lengthy discussions and often he shows off his satirical wit, as he is a serial jokester. Since he is always telling a joke; this day I didn’t know how to respond when the conversation took an unexpected turn. As his content of words turned deep in nature.

Just to share a snippet, he said, long ago everyone walked up 51 flights of stairs to the Empire State Building. Then out of nowhere, old OTIS came along. I knew he was  referring to the elevators, as I remember seeing the name OTIS embossed on a number of elevators, over the years. Continuing with his story, he said almost immediately walking became a thing of the past. The elevator became the sure bet, to gain access to the top of the roof. With this new progress of change in that day and time, who would want to walk the stairs anymore? When there is a faster and easier way to get to the top. So the change from the stairs to the elevators was denoted as an achievement and progress all in one. There are changes that propel us and thereby deemed a success, this was certainly one example. There are also changes, changed simply for the sake of changing. Not only are these a wasted effort, but also cause us to become stagnate. When we change things just to change a thing, it ultimately causes us to miss out on the middle. In essence we miss the steps in between. The elevator made it easier for us to get from one place to another in a building. So it was a necessary evil, if you will.

The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to anyone who seeks help from him. Lamentations 3:25 GW

But in our day-to-day life and since we’ve become use to so much progress, we are challenged to wait for any length of time. It is as though waiting is passe’ as it has loss its lackluster. One could ask was waiting, ever in fashion? Probably not, but we have definitely become that much more desensitized at the thought of waiting. Not to mention waiting on God is not the desired approach, to exercise our faith. Many times we give up on Him and go with our own plans and some how rationalize he didn’t show up, so we attempt to fix it ourselves. We are also master-manipulators of putting the cart before the horse, in the most precarious ways. We miss out, on the in between seconds, hours, days, weeks, months and yes even years. All because we want to get somewhere in life faster than another.

It will be said in that day, “Indeed, this is our God for whom we have waited that He would save us. This is the Lord for whom we have waited; Let us shout for joy and rejoice in His salvation.” Isaiah 25:9 AMP

When we choose to go a different route, what we are really saying I have a better way than God. No, we rarely vocalize those words, but that is the just what we are saying. Just once if we waited on Him in His ways we could truly say, I went the distance, completed the process and was victorious. If we never go the distance in Him how would we ever know what our end is going to be in Gods eye’s? So then the next time we have the same trust issues in Him, because we didn’t wait on God before. What I am learning in and out of season and while I wait; whether in the eye of the storm or at the threshold of break-through, His way will prevail. When it comes right down to it, I cringe at the notion to wait. This is the very place He wants to get us to and until we settle down or up in Him, we shall remain right in our spot or move on in our own might. Once we are comfortable with waiting on God it won’t be about the length of the journey, but more so enjoying the view. An example of this very thing in His word, the children of Israel. That’s what there murmuring and complaining stemmed from, everything took to long and they kept trying to carry out things in their own way. Also, Abraham and Sarah are pivotal examples of getting anstey and fidgety waiting on God, to deliver the promised son. So what did they do? Yes, Sarah came up with her own plan to make a baby.

Be still in the presence of the Lordand wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes. Psalm 37:7 NLT

There are those that would say, Sarah’s choice was not all bad, but there were consequences for her actions. Sarah, not only affected; she and her husband but also Hagar, Ishmael, Issac and a host of others. Yes there was grace for their mistakes even in that day and He still wasted nothing as it was all to the glory of God. Just another snapshot of how in the bible waiting was also quite the challenge.
